The Pepper Pot Community

The Pepper Pot Day centre was founded by Pansy Jeffrey to offer a culturally sensitive drop-in centre for recently retired, redundant or disabled members of the elderly African Caribbean community. The much-valued ‘home from home’ for settlers who had come from the islands of Antigua, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad & Tobago, the Bahamas and Belize.

The Pakistani Resource Centre is a registered charity and a voluntary organisation which was established in 1966 as a result of concerns expressed by the community regarding the lack of advice and information available for the South Asian Communities in Greater Manchester. The Centre helps provide support to the South Asian Communities in mental health, welfare rights, counselling, domestic violence, learning disabilities and the criminal justice system.

Just Psychology is a multidisciplinary group of professionals providing services to address the psychological and mental health needs of children, adults and families, with particular emphasis on cultural diversity, cultural competence and social justice. Our work focuses primarily on Black and minority ethnic (BME) children, young people and adults living in the North West of England. Some services such as training and consultation are provided at a national level.

Street Support

Manchester Homelessness Partnership formed to work together towards the aims and values of Manchester Homelessness Charter. Launched in May 2016, the charter unites many people with personal experience of homelessness with organisations from different sectors, to co-produce solutions together. Over 90 people with lived experience have been involved so far, many of whom were involved in co-writing the charter.

Jamaican Inspired

Jamaicans Inspired UK (JamIn UK) evolved out of the Jamaica Diaspora Future Leaders which was a body separated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade in Jamaica in 2009 from the then JDYA. The JA Diaspora Future Leaders was founded by young people for young people to create opportunities that will elevate and empower young people within Jamaica and the UK youth Diaspora.

Working chance

Chief Executive Jocelyn Hillman founded Working Chance from her kitchen table in 2009, inspired by the talent and potential of the young women she had met in women's prisons across the UK. She saw that many women continue to be stigmatised and overlooked after their release from prison. With little or no support to find a job or learn new skills, they remain trapped in a cycle of poverty and crime. Jocelyn wanted to change this and started cold-calling businesses to try and get them to rethink

back on track

Back on Track is a Manchester charity that supports disadvantaged people through education, training, work experience, volunteering – helping them move on from problems in their past towards a meaningful and fulfilled life. We work with people who are going through a process of recovery or rehabilitation, because of problems with alcohol or drugs, offending, homelessness and/or mental health.

The Greater Manchester BME Network project has been hosted at GMCVO since 2013, having originally started as part of a BASIS Big Lottery Funded project that ran from 2009-2012. Its aim is to provide networking opportunities and better access to knowledge, information and support for black and minority ethnic (BME) and refugee voluntary and community sector organisations across Greater Manchester. The Network still holds regular meetings, working in partnership with Manchester BME Network.

Smart works

We currently see over 8 women per week who come to us for an interview-appropriate outfit to wear to their job interview. We give our clients a complete outfit of clothes and accessories (theirs to keep) and we provide one-to-one preparation training so they feel more confident and start believing in their own ability to succeed. The two hours our clients spend with us can be transformative. All of our Smart Works service delivery is provided by our team.

What is domestic abuse? A kick, a punch, a push? Often it’s more complicated. Violence, control, intimidation and isolation are all forms of abuse that are much more common than you think. Sometimes these behaviours might start off small, but they can quickly escalate into abuse. The truth is, right here in Greater Manchester as many as one in three women and one in six men have experienced some form of domestic abuse. Does that sit right with you? Granby Somali Women’s Group was established in 1994 and after struggling to gain funding the Granby Somali Women’s Group were able to develop a centre at 12 Beaconsfield Street, Liverpool, which is were they reside today. The organisation has grown from strength to strength over the years but the work is never ending, as there are so many in need, while the organisation was originally intended for Somali women we now also assist women from the BRM community.

Somali advice link

Somalia Advice Link supports clients to develop their literacy and IT skills so that they can move towards employment. They were awarded a grant to help them provide weekly work club and digital mentoring sessions which typically cover Job Search Skills, CV preparations, interview skills and Universal job match registration. These sessions are accessed each week by people referred from other agencies, and have helped the group to develop strong links with other local agencies

Voice of BME

Voice of BME Trafford (VBME-T) was set up in 2006, with an official launch on 16th February 2007. From the very early days to the present time we have built up a membership of over a hundred people from the BME communities in Trafford. ‘VBME-T plays a strategic role in Trafford’ We are members of the Trafford Partnership, Trafford Mental Health Forum, Trafford Volunteer Managers Group, BME Social Inclusion Partnership, Joint Strategic Needs Assessment, Blue Sci Grants Panel.

Bluesci support

Bluesci Support provide wellbeing services – delivering Healthy Lifestyle support within community social settings. This is achieved through locating wellbeing services within North South and Central Trafford run by and for the benefit of the local community. They are in Partington, Broomwood, Old Trafford and Sale. Trafford residents are free to use whichever one they wish.

The Debt Advice Network is a registered charity, based in The Community Hub, in Ellesmere Port, that provides free, impartial, professional, face-to-face debt, money, housing and benefit advice , bringing help to people when and where they need it, touching the most vulnerable and ensuring that all have access to our services. We also provide free, confidential careers information, advice and guidance to local residents wishing to access the labour market.

MCU is a member owned financial co-operative, owned and controlled by its members, and has been in business for 25 years. It exists solely for the benefit of its members and any surplus generated is returned to members in the form of a dividend on savings, or used to improve services.

Pops

POPS believe that families of offenders should be recognised as valuable contributors to the offender journey and should not experience discrimination as a result of their relative’s involvement in the criminal justice system. We strive to banish the ‘guilty by association’ label that so many family members experience by working with our partners in the Criminal Justice System and community agencies to promote the role of the family and build awareness of the issues they face.
